A Simple CP Soap in a Milk Carton Mold

042018_26000wpThe very first soap I ever made was a 3-oil cold process soap scented with a little lavender essential oil. I purchased the oils from the grocery store and used a ziplock food storage container for the mold. I cut the soap into little rectangles and patiently waited a few weeks to try it. I was so excited about making soap. Years later, I still am. :)

I get a lot of requests to make a simple soap. I thought I would remake one of the first batches I ever made. I even created a little quart milk carton mold like I did for most of my early batches. I made a video about my whole process that includes what a light to medium trace looks like to me.

I also get a lot of requests to show how I line my soap molds. I actually use a method that Amy Warden shares in a YouTube video here. Before watching Amy’s video, I used a very time consuming method that took me forever to line a mold. Amy’s video is very detailed, and her method is so quick and easy with no leaks. I use it for all of my molds now.

RECIPE
Sized for a quart milk carton mold (7.5″ x 2.75″ x 2.75″)

Olive Oil – 240 g (40%)
Coconut Oil – 150 g (25%)
Shea Butter – 120 g (20%)
Cocoa Butter – 60 g (10%)
Castor Oil – 30 g (5%)

Distilled Water – 183 g
Sodium Hydroxide – 82 g

I used a 6% superfat and a 31% lye solution.

Lavender Essential Oil – 18 g (3% or 30 g/kg)

If you want to change the recipe, you can use a soap calculator like the one at Majestic Mountain Sage to recalculate the sodium hydroxide required for your new recipe: http://goo.gl/7hH5Vw

In case you’re interested, I have an affiliate store where I’ve listed all of the soap making supplies and materials that I purchase on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2DZmGfJ
If you use those links to buy anything, it won’t cost you anything extra, but I will receive a very small percentage of the sale. Every little bit helps, though, so thank you very much if you do! :)
